Ergonomic Training
Ergonomic training looks at how you sit, move and use your tools at work and at home, then changes what is causing strain. Rob Jordan, PT, offers it at our Hot Springs, Arkansas clinic for people whose pain seems tied to their desk, job or daily routine.
Treating the cause, not only the symptom
Ergonomics is the way we improve movement and function in daily life. It uses tools or body mechanics strategies aimed at making you more efficient and safe, and at finding what may lead to injury.
Treating an injury symptom by symptom does not mean it will not return. That is why we look for the cause and ways to fix it.
Problems often linked to posture and workspace setup
The most common work-related injuries are typically caused by poor posture, too much sitting and an awkward workspace.

What happens at your visit
Evaluation and history
A physical therapist examines you and reviews your medical history.
Talking through your day
You are asked about your desk or office setup, the tools and equipment you use, what your job demands and a summary of a typical day, to see what might be changed.
Changes you can make
For example, we may suggest moving your monitor or setting a reminder to get up and walk around. Sometimes a splint or wrist support may be recommended to make tasks more comfortable.
Other care as needed
You will likely also have other services, which can include targeted exercises and stretches, Manual Therapy, joint mobilizations, ice and heat, Electrical Stimulation Therapy and Therapeutic Ultrasound.
Beyond the office
Ergonomics applies at home too. Driving, sports and using your phone can all be adjusted. If you are coming back from an injury at work, see Work Injuries & Workers' Comp and Functional Capacity Evaluations.
